MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW

Written by Michael & Donna Coles with assistance from Rob Cleveland and award-winning children's author Ric Reitz, The Land of Caring Bou is a picturebook about an assortment of animals learning to grow up and find their own way. For generations, the kind and noble Caring Bou have watched over the mountain ranges of Caribou Pass. When Big Bou announces that the herd is leaving, a snowshoe hare, snowy owl, black bear, bighorn sheep, and clown duck each undertake a quest to become more like the Bou, do what they do, and protect the pass. At first misfortune dogs their attempts, but with the help of Big Bou, each animal discovers their own special gifts and the importance of being themselves: "You already are part of our Caring Bou family and you just need to be you." The colorful illustrations blend beautiful natural scenery with just a touch of cartoon-like expression
to soften the animals' faces
in this wonderful picturebook with an important underlying
message about being true to oneself and one's strengths.
