Who is Timothy Banks?
Hi there! I’m Timothy Banks, an award-winning illustrator, artist, and designer based in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina. My work is all about storytelling and bringing narratives to life visually and connecting with audiences of all ages through imaginative art.

The Bright Agency proudly represents me, and my journey as an illustrator began with No Pets Allowed, one of my first picture books, which remains in print today. Since then, I’ve collaborated with renowned publishers and brands like Nike, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Egmont, Faber & Faber, Adult Swim, and Paste Magazine. Locally, I’ve partnered with the Charleston Farmers Market, Piccolo Spoleto Festival, and YALLFest. Creating artwork that celebrates the vibrant Charleston community.

Beyond client collaborations, I’m passionate about painting and creating gallery work that blends rich colors, unique characters, and dynamic textures. My original pieces, which are collected worldwide and shipped directly from my studio, reflect my love for whimsical narratives and bold visuals.
My illustrations have been recognized by respected industry organizations, including a Gold Medal for editorial illustration from the Society of Illustrators Los Angeles. Additional honors include features in Spectrum, 3×3 Magazine, Creative Quarterly, PLAY! Illustration, and 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide.
Recent projects include The Hiking Viking, a whimsical children’s book filled with humor and adventure, and The Trapdoor Apprentice, my own ongoing author-illustrated story that highlights my passion for world-building and visual storytelling.

In addition to my work as an illustrator and painter, I’ve spent years teaching and mentoring emerging artists. I currently serve as an Assistant Professor of Art and Illustration at Charleston Southern University and as an adjunct professor of digital illustration at the College of Charleston. I also hold an MFA in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art & Design, which has deeply influenced my creative and professional approach.
